Walker
Walker is the protagonist of The Long Take, a veteran recently returned from fighting in World War II that is suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Late in the text it is mentioned that he is 34 years old, so it would seem he is 27 when the book begins. He is originally from a small town in Nova Scotia, Canada called Broad Cove, but feels he cannot return there because of how much the violence of the war has changed him. He pines for his former girlfriend, Annie MacLeod, but refuses to subject her to the man he has become. Over the course of the story, Walker moves from New York City to Los Angeles and gets a job at a local newspaper called the Press.
