Helen's Home

Most of the present day action occurs in Helen’s home. This is the case because Helen cannot leave her home, a flat, often because she has a newborn and has not figured out how to accomplish most tasks in the outside world with the baby without disturbing other people. She likes her window because it allows her to see outside while she is stuck inside. She spends time walking a route in her flat trying to get the baby to sleep. It is not a large flat.

The Hospital

Rose is born in a hospital. Helen and Rose get to spend a bit more time together in the delivery room than most people. When they are moved to the next room, Helen thinks about all the other people there and wonders about them. She is worried that she cannot leave Rose to go get a snack...
