Summary
In "The Leisure Centre," it is raining. Helen gets in a taxi when the bus does not show up, and she has to get to a doctor’s appointment. The cab driver talks throughout the ride, and he tells her a story of a time at 5:30 in the morning when a mom in a nightie asked him to drive her daughter to the Leisure Centre. The girl was supposed to go in the back entrance because the Centre was closed, but three men were drinking in front of the door. He told the girl that he would walk behind her as she went in. Helen believes she would have done the same thing that the taxi driver did had she been the one tasked with taking the child to swim class.
