Summary
Chapter 32 is written from Maurice Braddick’s third person perspective. Maurice likes Saturdays and on this Saturday he and Lucy are going to Barnstaple to shop, have coffee, and take a walk just as the family had done when Maggie, his wife and Lucy’s mother, was alive. On the way to Barnstaple, Maurice reminds Lucy to be careful. They go for coffee first. On the way he decides that he will talk to Jonathan to see what he suggests for Lucy’s future. Afterwards, he buys Lucy some cake and she window shops. They are going back to the car when Maurice sees Pam, a widow that he knows. He stops to talk to her and then realizes that Lucy is not there.
