Poughkeepsie, New York
Poughkeepsie is the town in New York where Lee Miller was born and grew up. Her family owned "a small farm of 165 acres" in this location, known to the family as Kingdom Park (9). The farm "became the test bed for all the new milking and cream-separating equipment produced by De Laval," the company in Poughkeepsie which employed Theodore Miller (9). Lee spent most of her childhood living here and helping her father with his various pastimes and creative pursuits. This was where she developed her first interest in photography by assisting her father and modeling for him. She returned to the farm for regular visits when she was living in New York City. However, when she moved overseas more permanently she spent years at a time away from the family homestead.
