Summary
In Chapter 10, “Winged Serpents: Married Life in Hampstead and Sussex, 1946-1956,” in 1946, Lee visited her parents for the first time in 12 years. They were excited to see her and curious about her new lover Roland who she brought along. Although she was still married to Aziz, Theodore and Florence welcomed Roland.
From Poughkeepsie, Lee and Roland traveled to New York where Vogue hosted a party for Lee. Here, Roland met Alfred Barr, founder of the Museum of Modern Art. Shortly thereafter, Lee and Roland visited Max Ernst and Dorothea Tanning in Arizona and Erik and Mafy in California. They also reconnected with Man Ray who had also moved to the area.
