Bávaro House
After the widow gets married, she and her husband move to a large house located near the water. The house is "on the coast near Bávaro House," and purchased for the new couple by the widow's parents (74). For a time, the widow is happy in this location, because she loves the beach and feels inspired by "every gull, every seashell, every grain of sand" in her environs (74). However, not long later, life in the "sprawling house" begins to change (74). The widow not only miscarries her first child, but her husband becomes violent and is accused of raping and impregnating one of their servants. When he evades consequence, the servant's husband kills him outside of the house. Almost immediately thereafter, the widow's parents send her away, forcing her to move from the Dominican to New York.
