Hundreds Hall
Hundreds Hall is the major setting for the novel. It is an old-style English manor house in which the Ayers, a formerly elite family, lives. Though the family had been rich in money and land, their possessions have dwindled to the point at which they struggle to keep their dairy farm and the big house running. Faraday saw this house both in its heyday when he was a ten-year-old boy and then thirty years later after it had fallen into disrepair.
Faraday goes to Hundreds Hall to treat Roderick, the son of the Ayers. It is during a party in this house that a young visitor, Gillian, is bitten on the face by Gyp.
