Summary
Chapter 5 begins with a section titled “Woolly.” At Woolly’s sister’s house, Duchess was surprised to learn that Woolly had inherited a Cadillac convertible from his father. Woolly remembered how angry Dennis had been when Woolly ran into a lamppost and dented the door. Sarah pointed out to Dennis it was not Dennis’ car, but it only seemed to make Dennis angrier.
Inside the house, Woolly found his dictionary. He loved the dictionary because it told him exactly what a word meant. He hated the companion thesaurus because it gave words that could be used in place of another word, a purpose that seemed disorderly to Woolly. At boarding school one semester, he had finally taken the thesaurus to the football field, doused it with gasoline, and set it on fire. The only problem was that he also caught the goalpost on fire...
