Summary
In Chapter 8, when Cassie returned to the college Lexie attended, she noticed how her four housemates shielded her from the inquisitive stares and questions from other students. She noted how they treated the house with reverence as they fixed it up, as if it belonged to all of them, not just Daniel. Cassie also noticed that they did not have boundaries, they were always touching one another, sharing drinks, food, and clothes. It was not until several days later when Cassie responded “Yes, Dad” (158) when Daniel ordered her to behave when she was showing off her gymnastic abilities, that she realized the group felt like a family.
