Summary
At a small house in Rudder, Florida, a pregnant woman named Frida prepares dinner for her husband, Kirby, and his two sons, Flip and Lucas. Frida is overcome with a sense of foreboding about the hurricane that is gathering off the coast, but Kirby insists that they should stay in Florida. As the storm darkens, Flip and Lucas become increasingly poorly-behaved, and Frida struggles to discipline them.
Lucas runs outside to summon Kirby to dinner and insults Frida as he does so. When Kirby notices that the boys are not eating any of Frida’s food, he commands them to do so. After dinner, Frida berates Kirby for not having boarded up the windows. Kirby tries to reassure her but fails. The power goes out in the middle of the night and Kirby wakes up. Nervous that Frida may be right, he begins boarding...
