Summary

Chapter 30 is titled “A Tiny Death.” Faith struggles with the hurtful words she said to her mother. She knows that her mother is doing her best for her family, and Faith admits she has done some questionable things in an effort to find Erasmus's killer. She resumes her search for Howard and finds him in the nursery. She uses the puppet theater to lure him out. When she sees the forest scene, she flashes back to her first vision but knows that Howard needs her. She realizes that when she used him to help spread the first rumor about ghosts, she also frightened him. Faith becomes angry with herself and has the puppet say that Faith is “a stupid, evil girl” (307). She runs from the nursery and cries.
