Rover High School

Yami and Cesar spend the first two years of high school attending Rover, a public school near their home in the south side of Phoenix. The majority of students at Rover are Hispanic like Yami and Cesar are, but both Yami and Cesar run into problems with homophobia. A group of boys finds out that Cesar is bi, and they begin beating him up every chance they get. Similarly, Yami tells her former best friend, Bianca, that she is gay an in love with her, and Bianca tells all their mutual friends. Because of all this, both Yami and Cesar are happy to leave the school and transfer to Slayton.
