Summary
In Chapter Nine, “Thou Shalt Not Self-Sabotage,” the homecoming football game arrives. Cesar asks his friend, David, to pretend to be him so that his mom will think he is on the team when she comes to the game to watch him. To Yami’s surprise, the plan actually succeeds. Everyone couples up for homecoming, except for Yami and Bo, so they ditch the dance together and watch a movie. Afterwards, Yami asks Bo if she wants to go to the afterparty, but Bo says no, then asks why Yami wants her to go so badly. Yami stares into her eyes, then blurts out that she is straight, which offends Bo, who says she does not like Yami anyway and already has a girlfriend. Bo asks Yami to leave, and Yami does so, feeling terrible.
