The Excitement of Danger
People are often lured into dangerous situations because of the excitement factor. In this novel, a leopard escapes from a zoo. The potential for danger is real on multiple levels, including the fact that there are so many people ready to hunt for the leopard during the few days it remains on the loose.
The narrator of this story is Grady, who is five years old when the leopard escapes. Grady and his brother Danny spend many Sunday afternoons at the local zoo under the care of their two maternal uncles, Emmett and Frank. They know the zoo well, moving past the things that frighten Grady and spending more time at the animals that interest him most.
