Summary

In Chapter 8, Daniel speaks to Leon on the phone. Leon invites Daniel to visit him in China, and notes that Daniel’s Chinese “sucks” (152). The next day, Daniel attends Jim Hennings’ birthday party, where he sees Angel and her new boyfriend, Charles. They talk to Daniel’s parents about a “thief” (154), alluding to Daniel. Daniel gives his Carlough College application forms to his parents, who later call him on the phone, angry that he submitted a satirical application: “I don’t even want to go to Carlough” (158). Daniel walks around all night, and leaves his mom a message on the phone.
