Summary
In Chapter 12, “A Fortunate Man,” Oliver worried he “had lost Ruhaba” as they were “on opposite sides” of the campus debate (175). After the sit-in, Oliver discovered his tires were slashed. Ruhaba offered him a ride. Oliver sat in the back so Adil could sit up front. While they ran errands together, Oliver listened to Ruhaba and Adil talk, feeling excluded. He wondered if his interest in Ruhaba was greater than the desire for sex. Meanwhile, he wished he had a story like Ruhaba and Adil. At LifeFloat afterwards, he wondered who he would be with and without Ruhaba.
In Chapter 13, “Un-American,” the agents visit Oliver. They found his porn and are suspicious. Because he searched “Muslim Women porn,” they think he was involved with Ruhaba (192). They question him about his marriage, affairs, and history of sexual violence. Oliver talks himself out of all...
