Summary
Michael tells Davidia that he met Roland, in Freetown in 2001. NATO had people in Africa two weeks after 9/11. He was with NIIA – NATO Intelligence Interoperability Architecture but he wasn’t a spy. Michael said he was in fiber optics with the CIA which Roland denies. Roland tells Davidia he’s in budget and fiscal work now. Roland is on the brink of being engaged to Tina who’s an attorney with NATO in Amsterdam. Roland was raised by his father, a physician, in Switzerland. He hasn’t seen his mother since he was eight. When he returns to the hotel, the clerk gives him a note from Hamid about the sale of the contents of his Cruzer.
The next day Roland transfers to the Scanlon Hotel. Even though he was sent to Freetown, Roland is happy to be back in the anarchy...
