Summary
The call center had given Ballard the address of a run-down motel. She asked the counterman about the guest in room eighteen, and after some coaxing he told her it was occupied by Christopher Nettles, a felon on parole for multiple theft charges. She called for backup and instructed the counterman to call Nettles and tell him the police had come to ask him about him. As she intended to happen, Nettles left the room and began frantically packing his stolen goods into his car. She and the responding officers arrested him and found he was carrying a gun, another violation of his parole. Ballard called Rob Compton, a parole officer friend of hers, to come and book Nettles on the gun charge so that she wouldn’t have to get a warrant. They searched through the thousands of dollars of stolen items...
