Summary

In Chapter 34, Kester and over a hundred animals reach the end of the forest and see Premium in the distance. The stag collapses and admits he has had the plague from the beginning. His eyes begin to grow red, indicating the late stage has arrived. He begs Kester to go ahead without him. Kester does not want to, but the stag needs to rest. Polly instructs Kester on how to give the stag a drop of medicine from a nightvale flower that will put him to sleep. Kester’s watch lights up with a message that says, “Give up.” He leaves the stag and walks into the city through a hole in the fence.
