Summary
In Chapter 27, the woman gets out of the harvest machine and introduces herself as Ma. She says she can help because she hates cullers, and she takes Kester and his friends to Old Burn Farm. The field mouse tells Kester that the rest of his nest starved to death after the crops were all destroyed.
In Chapter 28, Ma and a group of her friends take the animals and send Kester and Polly to a quarantine shed. Kester puts the leaves on Polly’s swollen ankle. They fall asleep and wake up in the middle of the night. Polly says she wants to go home and find her parents. Kester picks up a shovel and breaks down the door so they can escape.
In Chapter 29, Kester and Polly follow the sound of music and find Ma and the others grouped...
