Summary
In Chapter Eight, the pigeons drop Kester off next to a lake. Kester has never been anywhere other than Premium, and Spectrum Hall. He has never seen uninterrupted nature before. The pigeons fly away without explaining anything to him and the cockroach who calls himself The General takes a nap. Kester decides to wash off in the lake, but he is frightened of the water because he saw on the news that all the dead fish had polluted the lakes and river. However, the water is clean. He dries off on a rock and is startled by a noise in the woods.
In Chapter Nine, Kester is shocked to see a deer run up to the lake. Suddenly, dozens of animals burst out of the forest. He is completely baffled as to how any of them are alive. He...
