The town
Almost the entirety of The Last White Man takes place in an unnamed town that could be virtually anywhere in the Western world. The author provides no identifying information for the town because the story is an allegory about race, and part of the point is that racism and white supremacy are problems that exist in numerous places around the world. The town contains "shops and offices and restaurants and bars" (133). Anders works at a gym in the town and Oona works at a yoga studio. They both grew up and attended high school in this town. At the beginning of the novel, the town is predominantly white, but as the story progresses, each resident of the town becomes dark-skinned.
