Anders

Anders is one of two main characters in The Last White Man. He is in his 20s and seems to have few close connections in his life. He is a relatively ordinary person, until he wakes up one morning at the beginning of the novel and discovers his skin color has changed from white to brown. His reaction to this change involves considerable internal conflict. Anders also begins to see other people differently, as he is forced to examine his prejudices.

Anders' mother died several years before the events of the novel, and he has a strained relationship with his father. The narrator notes that Anders had trouble in school as a child and did not learn to read as quickly as his classmates.
