Point of View

Most of The Last Time I Lied is told from the first-person point of view. Consider: “I paint the girls in the same order” (9). In this quote, Emma talks about herself as she describes how painting the girls is therapeutic. The first-person point of view is important in this novel because it allows the reader to become emotionally close to Emma. The reader knows that Emma did not hurt Sasha, Miranda, and Krystal even though no one else believes her. Because the reader also has insight into Emma’s thoughts, feelings, and emotions through her narration, he understands how deeply Emma is hurt by the accusations.
