Summary
In Chapter 27, Emma is confused by the detective’s questions because she is not sure if he is referring to the girls missing in the present or the ones from fifteen years prior. The detective asks leading questions suggesting that Emma screamed out of guilt, not fear. Emma wonders why he is wasting time asking her questions instead of being out looking for the girls.
Emma thinks about Vivian’s diary and suggests that the detective needs to talk to Franny. She mentions that Vivian had been poking around and might have stumbled upon something Franny wanted to keep secret. Flynn claims that accusation does not make sense. Emma tells Flynn about the people spying on her, the birds in her room, and the vandalism. Flynn points out there is nothing to back up Emma’s story, but Emma remembers the camera...
