Detective Rose drives him to Centerville where the jail is. He works his hands free of the cuffs, hope renewing itself in his mind. He remembers the conversation the guards had outside of the torture room. He realizes that he is supposed to escape. He has to look for the right opportunity and doubts cloud his ability to think. He asks Detective Rose if they are going directly to the prison, but Rose tells him that he will go to Winchester first and Charlie knows he will have to break free before then, or he will lose the single advantage he now has - surprise.
