Point of View
The Last Report on the Miracles at Little No Horse is written from a third person omniscient point of view. This means that the third person narrator possesses knowledge of each individual character, of multiple settings and environments, and of concepts and notions to which not all of the characters might be privy. Because Agnes, or Father Damien, is the main character of the novel, the narrator pays arguably the most attention to her interiority. Therefore, when the narrator is depicting Agnes’s or Father Damien’s experiences, she inhabits her psyche. One such example appears in the prologue, “The Old Priest,” while Father Damien is penning his last report to the pope: “A great swallow of red wine—this fierce clarity, perhaps it was the vintage?
