Point of View
The point of view of the novel is essential to its structure and meaning. Part One: Amber, is told from the third person point of view with a close eye on Amber. There is very little psychic distance between the narrator and Amber, so essentially everything that we see and look at in this section is filtered through Amber’s mind. Because she is so shallow and obsessed with wealth and status, everything is seen from this perspective. Since Daphne is rich and beautiful, she sees her life as perfect and does not look deeper into any of the signs of abuse that are there.
