Summary

Chapter 14 is titled “Drifting.” The ship has reached a very calm place so the sailing ship moves more slowly. The sailors are more subdued after Sangra's harsh punishment of the thief. Sai adapts to the life at sea. As Paiyoon's tremors become worse without his medication, Sai is required to write and draw more. Though Sangra will make the final decision regarding their course, she is depending on Paiyoon for advice. When Sai asks how they can possibly chart a course to a land that has never been explored, Paiyoon says, “Do you really think that in the entire history of time, no one has ever sailed where we are trying to go?” (112).
