Summary

Chapter 6 is titled “Expedition Fever.” Sai spends her weekend trying to find a mailbox that might hold a letter she can use to craft the forged letter. Mud knows Sai does not want to participate. He urges her to keep trying, but says she can have as much time as she needs. He says the money from this scam would change their lives. He says he can even buy a forged lineal for Sai. She knows she should not expect him to save up for a real one, and that officials would “probably laugh in our faces” (42). Sai says she does not want a lineal.
