Summary

Chapter 22 resumes in October 2003, four hours after Ellie leaves Jennifer's apartment. Ellie thinks about Jennifer's great love. Ellie is beginning to think her relationship with John is not the life she should have chosen. A line from Anthony's letter that bemoans the miles between them makes his future seem bleak. She sends John a text, asking that he please call because she needs to hear from him. Rory arrives at her apartment, senses she is upset, and makes tea. Rory talks about a trip he has planned soon, wondering if he chose the best traveling mate. She begins to cry outright and admits she fears no one will ever love her as Anthony loved Jennifer.
