Summary
Chapter 9 is set in September of 1960, just weeks before the accident. Anthony is waiting at Alberto's for Jennifer to arrive. They have been writing letters for five weeks. She has reserved post office box 13 for this purpose, to ensure no one else sees the letters. They have seen each other only a few times. He writes almost daily, telling her everything, including that he considers himself selfish and stubborn. During one of their few meetings, she was late and he berated her for not writing as openly to him as he did to her. He left a note with the word “sorry” the following day and she wrote back a couple of days later, explaining that it was difficult for her to write her feelings.
