Summary

In Chapter 20, Petra is worried about who was in her room. Petra listens to a conversation between a woman named Glish and a man named Hammerhead. Glish is apparently upset about Len's death. Hammerhead corrects her, saying “I'm sure you mean you are willing to sacrifice for the Collective” (165). He points out the positives of having the Collective in charge, including the assurance of plenty of food. Petra suddenly understands what Robert meant when he talked about “dogma.” Glish says their work is pointless if they are dead. Nyla hears it. A moment later, a large man arrives. Petra decides to call him Prawn. He takes Glish away. She says, “For the Collective” as she walks away with him. Hammerhead says, “For the Collective,” and others echo his words.
