Summary

In Chapter 18, in Paternoster Square, most of the bookstores were already on fire. Grace and Stokes joined the search for survivors. Pritchard’s store was damaged. Grace found Pritchard in his upstairs apartment, crushed under a piece of fallen furniture, but she was able to rescue Tabby. Meanwhile, a bomb had broken the water main. The firemen were unable to siphon water from the Thames because it was unusually low. The firemen could do nothing but let the fires burn themselves out. In the morning when Grace arrived at the townhouse with Tabby, Weatherford recognized him as the last cat Colin had rescued and agreed to keep him.
