Summary
Haddish "knew" she made it when she was featured on the Arsenio Hall show, a dream of hers since she was a young girl (253). When announcing her to the stage, Arsenio called her beautiful, smart, and funny. She was "crying with joy" (255). Being on that show gave her a platform "to be able to be seen" being herself, which led to meeting Tyler Perry and being cast for Girls Trip (256). Although she felt like she made it, career-wise, her friend Jada Pinkett Smith still had a few things to teach Haddish about the social aspect of being a celebrity. Smith encouraged her to wear brand-name designers, not knock-offs. She also recommended that Haddish wear more make-up when being seen in public.
