Summary
Chapter Five
Tom and the Spook travel to the town of Chipenden where the Spook has a home. He and Tom have a meal cooked by an unseen servant. The Spook gives Tom instructions to come down for breakfast when he hears a bell. Tom hears a bell in his dream and goes down, only to be slapped by some unseen force. Tom is confused, but the Spook seems amused. He takes Tom through the gardens where he shows Tom a grave that has a buried witch. A witch's head is
buried first because their spirits are constantly trying to escape, but it’s harder for the spirit to escape if they are buried head first. He tells Tom they have two other witches buried. One is dead, but the other, Mother Malkin is still alive. He also shows Tom a stone marker...
