Summary
Upon arriving in Iceland, Eve immediately begins looking for love, and finds it in a boy named Lars. Although Vera likes Lars—and is particularly fond of his small, quaint house—she begins to feel increasingly alienated from Eve, a development that leaves her lonely. Meanwhile, Jane throws herself into her research and claims to be disinterested in continuing the mammoth project. One night, while Eve is over at Lars’ house, Jane takes a long enough break from her work to register that Eve is missing, and when she questions Vera about her sister’s whereabouts, Vera decides to sell Eve out. Jane finds Eve naked in Lars’ bed and brings her home, grounding her from night visits and insisting that Vera accompany Eve and Lars at all times during the day.
