Summary

After completing her work in Siberia, Jane moves her children back to their home in Berkeley, CA. There, she begins studying the samples taken from the mammoths and comes up with the idea of studying mammoth tusks to learn things about their life cycles. Though the professor seems pleased with this idea, he assigns Todd to begin researching it, and Jane is swiftly deprived of credit. Later that week, Jane attends a conference at a science museum, which she brings Eve and Vera to. She is routinely dismissed by her male colleagues and eventually becomes upset enough to take shelter in an enclosed rainforest room in the museum. While Jane complains about sexist discrimination to her daughters, the trio are interrupted by a wealthy, stately woman named Helen MacDaniel. Helen comforts Jane and reveals that she and her husband breed elephants...
