Summary

Chapter 19

Matthew attacks Todd, saying that he’s doing it because of Jessica. Todd senses something in his Noise, which he immediately says is a lie, although the reader doesn’t know what he’s referring to. Manchee tries to hold off Matthew, but he gets cut and loses part of his tail. Todd is able to lure Matthew into a trap in the bar, cutting several barrels free to collapse on top of Matthew. Francia comes running back, telling Todd to hide with Viola. Prentisstown is attacking in force. Viola and Todd decide to flee towards Haven, not wanting to put the town in any more danger. As they get to the top of the hill, they see that all of Prentisstown has marched out, easily outnumbering the smaller town of Farbranch.

Todd uses Viola’s binoculars to watch the battle...
