Mozart
The name “Mozart” is a symbol of classical music. In this novel, it is also a symbol of the relationship between Woferl and Nannerl for two reasons. First, they share their birth name. Secondly, since women are not allowed to compose music during the time period, using their surname is the only way Woferl can share credit with Nannerl. When he signs the work he publishes and that his father gives as a gift, Woferl signs only his last name. He cannot openly tell anyone that Nannerl helped with the compositions and that some of them are solely her work. However, the Mozart signature shows that he personally does share the work with Nannerl.
Hyacinth
