Summary
The next chapter is titled “The Queen of the Night.” Nannerl is relieved that Hyacinth and the faeries are all at the castle, and that the kingdom allows her to find her way to the ocean. She swims to the underwater cave where she finds the queen is surrounded by a “golden glow” of magic.” Nannerl reveals she knows the woman is the queen. She says Hyacinth devoured the princess. The queen says “The girl in the tower was you, child,” and points out that “You still live, just as your brother does” (290). She warns that Hyacinth will take both of them if Nannerl lets him. Nannerl realizes the princess was the trapped part of her soul, and that he now wants her heart...
