Summary
The next chapter is titled “The Arrow.” Hyacinth comes for Nannerl the night after the opera, but he does not wake Woferl. Hyacinth points out an arced rock and says there is a crossbow there, fitted with a single arrow. He cannot enter, saying the ground is toxic to him. The faeries that always surround him also remain behind. When she picks up the crossbow, her arms become heavy and she hears voices accusing her of poisoning the land, saying she does not belong in this world. She responds by shouting that she is a composer, and the wind and voices stop, allowing her to reach Hyacinth. He takes her face in his hands and kisses her. She is thrilled but thinks about Johann. She tells Hyacinth about the voices that accused her of poisoning this world...
