Section VII, ch. 16-18 Summary

Although Anita feels exposed, she realizes that Liv will scare the assassin away. She convinces Liv to leave, promising to prevent Jean-Claude from punishing her if Anita survives. Anita tries not to look suspicious though she holds her gun in her hand. Willie McCoy, Anita's vampire friend, stops by Anita's table to say hello as Jean-Claude starts the show. Damian illegally bespells a woman, and Anita angrily sends Willie to tell Jean-Claude that this show is over. Damian releases the woman, and when she panics, he bespells her again and prepares to bite her. Anita points her gun at Damian. He asks for a volunteer and releases the woman, Karen.
