Summary
Chapter 29
Mark forces himself to remain calm. Alec tells him the blood could be from a wound that is not bad. Alec is able to deduce that the three of them were being chased and Deedee’s footprints disappeared, meaning she was carried. They follow the path to a canyon, which Alec reveals to be the landing area for the Berg. Alec believes the canyon houses an old government bunker, because they are so close to Asheville. They move on carefully and see an area where a struggle has taken place, crushing many of the bushes. Suddenly, there are loud, metallic bangs, and the ground on which they stand lifts toward the sky.
