In Chapter 6, May writes another diary entry about the Firebird. Brooks was conceived in the car. The car was also used to rush Mrs. Gold to the hospital for May's delivery.

Dave finally asked Brooks to prom two weeks before the event. She was able to borrow the items she needed and then get some luxury things with the $200 her Gold grandparents sent to help out with the dance. Brooks is at the drug store finishing the items on her prom list and decides to buy condoms.
