Chapter 9 Summary
The next day, Bill goes to the office and asks Ed why Darlene never mentioned that she does Teri's hair. Ed gets very defensive and says that Bill shouldn't insinuate anything. Even though Bill tries to assure Ed that he didn't mean anything by his question, Ed is still upset. The two of them, with Sam, go to The River's Bend, a local pub. It used to be jammed with people drinking and having a great time, but now it only caters to the sad and lonely men who are out of work.
The guys drink boilermakers, shots of whiskey dropped into a glass of beer. Sam keeps ordering more for the table, and they get quite drunk. Sam goes on and on about a retirement community in Florida that he wants to move to after the paper folds. He has a nice...
