Chapter 3 Summary
Soon, word has spread about the Ronny Lawton story. Some of the big city papers have picked up the pictures that were printed in The Daily Truth, and Sam is very excited about this. Bill feels the excitement as well, and knows that the story will only grow. There is a gruesome discovery of a severed finger found at the Lawton residence. The town is buzzing, everybody is sure that it's the finger of Old Man Lawton. As Bill drives to the Lawton residence to get the story, he hears endless reports on the radio. Many of the neighbors have been interviewed, and they all point out Ronny's bad temper, his alcoholism, and the fights he constantly had with his wife and his father. The neighbors are sure that Ronny killed his father and buried his various body parts in the backyard.
