Summary

In Chapter 21, Sunshine, Freddy, and Laura hold a ceremony for Anthony. Sunshine has planned the ceremony to be both a scattering of Anthony’s ashes in the rose garden and wedding ceremony for Anthony and Therese. Sunshine recites a poem and Freddy turns the gramophone on to play “At Last.” At the end of the ceremony, Sunshine says a prayer. When Laura goes upstairs that night, she finds the clock stopped at 11:55 and her bed covered in rose petals.

Chapter 22 returns to Eunice in 1987. Douglas has died and Bomber gets a new dog, whom he names Bette. Bomber and Eunice go to the movies. When they return to the office, Bomber finds a book sent to him by a rival publisher called “’Lost and Found’ by Anthony Peardew” (116). Eunice senses something familiar about the book. Portia and Bomber disagree about Godfrey’s treatment...
