Importance: Jeri tells Lacy that she discovered Bannick was murdering people when she started investigating her father’s murder. Even though the police have been unable to identify a suspect in her father’s murder, Jeri is sure that it was Bannick who killed him.
They found him in his apartment. Asphyxiation. Same rope, same unusual knot. Sailors call it the double clove hitch, pretty rare. Another unsolved mystery, another very cold case.

Importance: Jeri explains that she has connected Bannick’s murders using the signature rope and knot that he leaves behind. She discovered that a newspaper article written by Cleveland had kept Bannick from winning a political position. Because of the article, Bannick put Cleveland on his list, stalked him for years, and killed him.
